Dominguez, Oscar

Born in the Canary Islands, Oscar Dominguez became one of the last cursed painters of Montparnasse. Arriving in Paris in 1927 to oversee the family business, he fell in love with the city and painting, dissipating the family fortune. After his father's death in 1931, he had to work to support himself, starting out as an advertising illustrator. His talent for Surrealism emerged in 1932, and he joined the group led by André Breton in 1934. In 1935, he invited them to exhibit on his native island.
