Soft waist and savings size

Intaglio engraving, synonymous with intaglio engraving, is the name given to all the metal engraving techniques where the ink is deposited in the grooves dug by the artist. Etching can be direct, using tools such as chisels or drypoint, or indirect, when an acid (mordant) is used to engrave the plate, such as etching or aquatint.

Saving size, synonymous with relief engraving, refers to all engraving processes where only the raised parts are inked, thus sparing the parts dug out by the engraver. Saving is mainly the process used in woodcutting or linocutting.
