Partly original edition with an unpublished foreword and forty-three plates printed in black and in color of Michaux's graphic work from 1936 to 1946. Each plate is protected by a serpente bearing the title of the work and a fragment of text, extracted from the author's works, printed in red (I.29).
Filled black cover with printed title, written by Michaux, on the front cover in red. Black hardback case and folder with a red label with the title in black on the spine.
The book is presented by an introductory text "Thinking about the phenomenon of painting", an unpublished and unequalled attempt where Michaux relates his two modes of artistic expression.
