Biography

Born in Saint-Claude in 1927, Guy Bardone studied at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon and was subsequently taught by Maurice Brianchon and François Desnoyers. His work is also influenced by the work ofHenri Matisse and Pierre Bonnard. He exhibited at the Musée Galliera in Paris in 1953 and at the Galerie Charpentier in 1954. He moved to Paris in 1956 after his first solo exhibition there in 1955. He produced his lithographs at the Atelier Mourlot and took over the studio of painter Albert André in Place Clichy. Throughout his life, Bardone experimented with tapestry, lithography and the illustration of literary works by Marcel Aymé, Henry de Montherlant and Joseph Kessel. His first retrospective exhibition took place in 1986 at the Château de Chenonceau, and testified to the variety of his work. He died in Oyonnax in 2015.
