Masson, André
André Masson (1896-1987), committed to and receptive to the historical and intellectual upheavals of his time, is one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. His non-doctrinaire participation in the Surrealist movement, his invention of automatic drawing and sand paintings, his fruitful collaborations with contemporary artists and thinkers, and the influence of his drawings and canvases on the beginnings of American abstract expressionism are the best-known aspects of his work, which remains to be explored in all its global power.
