Chuta, Kimura

Born in 1917 in Takamatsu, Japan, Chuta Kimura grew up in a middle-class family. A loner, he discovered his passion for drawing as a child. After studying at the Nika Academy of Art in Tokyo, he was sent to China for his military service, where he became fascinated by Chinese people and art, particularly ancient calligraphy.
